Q1. What exactly is vibration-training?

A1. Vibration training is a method of training in which the WBVV vibration-training apparatus is used. The WBVV is a training-platform which gives mechanical oscillations from 3 to 50 Hertz.

This type of vibration is also known as whole-body-vertical-vibration “WBVV”. Indeed, the whole body vibrates.

The vibration emanating from the pedestal and conducted throughout the body stimulates muscle fibers (myocytes) with three times the strength of gravity, causing the muscle fibers to contract and relax with greater strength and speed; such powerful muscle contractions, when repeated with the frequency seen in WBVV exercise, increase explosive muscle strength, dramatically enhance flexibility and expedite the recovery of damaged muscles and tendons making it an athletic trainer's dream machine
In addition, blood vessels throughout the body are stimulated, and circulation is improved. Furthermore, tendons and ligaments, parts of the body not easily trained, become better toned, and the function of intrapelvic muscles and small muscles such as facial muscles which cannot be worked out through conventional weight training exercises is improved.

The WBVV has a positive effect on:

• muscle tissue
• nerves
• blood vessels
• bones
• cartilage
• hormones, and
• neurotransmitters.

The effects of the WBVV depend on:

• the frequency of the vibration in Hz = the number of impulses per second
• the amplitude of the vibration in Mm = the extent of the movement
• the acceleration of the vibration in G = the power/force of the movement
• the duration of the vibration in seconds or minutes = the time one spends on the apparatus
• the position on the apparatus = the stance one uses on the apparatus.

Exercise involving vibration in the vertical direction also causes greater calorie consumption than regular aerobic exercise does.

Whole Body Vertical Vibration exercise in conjunction with conventional muscle exercise can increase maximum muscle strength by over 30% and reduce the period of training required by 85% and time spent exercising by over 50%. Moreover, unlike in conventional muscle training methods involving lifting of weights, little additional load is imposed on joints, ligaments, and tendons in Whole Body Vertical Vibration exercise, and consequently the risk of exercise-induced injury is reduced to a negligible level.

Q2. Can vibration have damaging effects in the long run?

A2.  Vibration is a physical phenomenon which can give enormous power. Extensive research has been done in Scandinavia into the industrial laws and the effect of vibration whilst using, for example, a drill. It appears that only after about 2000 hours of continuously using a drill, is there a risk of damage occurring to the joints of fingers, hands, wrist and elbow. The joints which then mainly suffered were those not used to carrying such a heavy load, such as fingers, hands, wrist and elbow.

Some simple calculations show the following : if we take the longest recommended training protocol of a maximum of 10 minutes per day, one can thus do 12,000 (!) sessions on the VibraGym. With a session of 10 minutes per day, one could theoretically stand on the VibraGym every day for more than 32 years!!!

Conversely, the joints of the toes, feet, ankle and knee are pre-eminently suitable to carrying heavy loads i.e. walking, running, sprinting and jumping. Damage is therefore avoided by the extremely short period of a load, which is 10 minutes per day

Q3.  When training on the WBVV do the arms also undergo training?

A3. Strangely enough, they do ! Most of the users of the WBVV say that their arms have become stronger, even though they have not been especially trained. The explanation for this is the enormous impact of the vibration on the whole body ('whole-body-vibration') and the hormonal effect of the vibration-training.

Q4. What is now the ideal protocol?

A4.  That is almost the same as asking about the ideal food pattern. When setting up a protocol, the following factors are also taken into consideration:

objective
state of health (are there any disorders)
state of fitness
body dimension and composition
percentage of fast muscle fibers
training program
individual reaction to vibration.

In addition to all of this, it must also be borne in mind that sport scientists still disagree about the optimal protocol for increased strength by using dumbbells/weights or training apparatus.

The WBVV is a training apparatus for which we give a general training protocol. This protocol is based on scientific research which has resulted in excellent results for a large group of people. Nevertheless, an even better result might well be achieved by adapting to the individual requirements.

With the WBVV, there is one principle of which we are sure. It is not a question of the longer and harder we work on the apparatus per session, the better our results will be. This is not true for other types of training, and it is certainly not true for vibration-training.

Q5.  Why do we hear or read so little about vibration-training?

A5.  This application in sport is "only" twenty years old, and originated in the former Soviet Union, where new developments were always veiled in secrecy. Research into the effects of vibration in sport only started in the West in 1994. And even then, the first years of research produced very little result because the frequency, the amplitude and the acceleration of the apparatus built were not correct. For this reason, it was concluded that vibration was not effective and the principle was, yet again, shelved.

Professor Carmelo Bosco is the person who provided the great scientific breakthrough with his development of the Vibration device. It is expected that vibration-training will receive more and more attention in the forthcoming years from trainers, scientists, physicians, fitness centers and physical therapists. You will undoubtedly hear and read more about vibration-training in the near future.

Q6.  Does vibration-training have scientific foundation?

A6.  Yes, vibration-training is scientifically underpinned. In the 1960's, research was done by scientists from the former Soviet Union (Nazarov) and later on by the Israeli scientist, Issurin, into the applicability and the effects of what we now call 'vibration-training'

During the past few years, Korea has rediscovered the principle of vibration-training and done further scientific research.

Vibration-training is also often used in Germany as clinical treatment. Methods of treatment in Germany are only allowed if the method and methodology are adequately proved. Moreover, the methods of treatment are constantly being tested by the government authorities. We are unaware of any situations in which vibration-training is not allowed.

In any case, the literature bibliographies show there are sufficient scientific publications in leading journals about vibration-training. From a scientific point of view, one can conclude that vibration-training is sufficiently researched to be scientifically founded.

Q7.  Can vibration-training be used by everyone, and how safe is it?

A7.  Vibration-training can, in principle, be called a safe method of training. Although in the past there has never been any reason for drawing up contra-indications, we feel that care should be taken in using the WBVV. Of course there are a few contra-indications such as pregnancy, heart valve disorders and (hip and knee) implants, but there are no indications to suppose that it is unsafe.

Used alone or as a pre and post-workout complement to traditional strength training and cardiovascular exercise, the WBVV provides its conditioning benefits in a fraction of the time traditional exercise routines require.

Full-body workouts, consisting of movements and positions designed to train the entire body, can be done on the WBVV. Since it can train without the physical rigors of traditional exercise, individuals with debilitating conditions can enhance their quality of life and potentially extend it through improved overall fitness. For avid fitness enthusiasts, the WBVV enhances traditional exercise regimens.

WBVV is a machine which induces rigidity of the muscle through rapid contraction and vibration motion of the muscle in a short span of time. WBVV creates an excessive gravitational state by giving a vibration motion to the muscle while giving a certain strain to the muscle at a certain position.

The BRS 500 was the first Bioresonance System developed by MEDEC and has been sold in over 20 different countries. The BRS 500 is the most sophisticated model within the BRS range, incorporating a choice of 29 stimulation, relaxation and sedation programs, designed for regeneration or relaxation.

An energy field is created when the mat or pillow applicator is connected to the control unit and one of the 29 different programs is activated. By simply lying on the mat or by using the pillow, the body benefits from the effects of the gentle energy field, helping the body to “recharge its batteries”.

The Light & Sound Therapy stimulates the brain waves with the help of optic signals from the LED spectacles and acoustic signals of the headphones. Depending on the type of program selected, the brain adapts to the pulsations, and produces either Beta waves (waking state), Alpha waves (relaxation phase), Delta waves (deep sleep) or Theta waves (dream state). The different programs positively support relaxation, sleep, concentration and memory.

The BRS 500 is used by Health Professionals in their clinics as well as the health conscious private user at home.

Regular use of the Bioresonance Therapy can assist in:

• Increasing the natural regenerative power of the body
• Strengthening the immune system
• Prevention of chronic and degenerative diseases, such as arthritis, osteoporosis and rheumatism
• Increasing the metabolism
• Reducing the effects of ageing
• Regulation of blood pressure
• Reduction of stress levels
• Improving sleep and relaxation

Components:
• Control Unit with a choice of 29 programs, operated by a microprocessor

Treatment with stimulating currents is a well-established form of medical therapy where energy is transferred to the organism by means of electric currents.

Energy can also be transferred to an organism much more effectively and comfortably with magnetic induction. That is, applying a pulsating magnetic fi eld, produced by the MEDEC Bioresonance Systems induces current to flow that corresponds with the electrical activity of nerves, muscle fibres and blood vessels of a healthy person.

By stimulating the electrical activity of individual cells and therefore, providing more energy via the Bioresonance Systems, a number of different physiological effects are possible, including;

Metabolism - increase in energy expenditure (see Graph below) and improvement of digestion.

Circulation - increase in blood circulation with improvements in peripheral vascular disease; reduction in
haematoma and oedema.

Regeneration - enhanced wound and bone healing; increased energy and feeling of well-being.

The use of electromagnetic force as a therapy has been illustrated for centuries with examples found in ancient literature by Plato, Aristotle and Hippocrates.

Towards the end of the 18th century scientists proved that electromagnetic forces exist in living organisms. More recently, Danish physicist Niels Boer and German physicist Werner von Heisenberg concluded that electromagnetic forces controlled all life functions of humans, animals and plants.

Using this knowledge, Russian scientists successfully used electro-magnetic fi elds to maintain and regenerate the health of their cosmonauts. The success of the Russian program inspired scientists to resume the study of pulsating electro-magnetic fields on the body’s own frequency patterns. It was found that different electro-magnetic frequencies were proven to be beneficial in the treatment of many different health problems.

The body contains trillions of individual cells that combine to provide the necessary energy for the body to operate effectively.

Each human cell can be likened to a re-chargeable battery. When fully charged, a battery is capable of providing maximum power to perform a number of different functions. Further, when a number of batteries are used simultaneously, a larger amount of power is available.

Similarly, when trillions of cells are fully charged, a large amount of energy is manufactured and readily available for the body to use and perform different activities.

In contrast, as a battery is drained of power, its ability to perform maximally also decreases until all of its energy is used and further functions are no longer possible.

When the electric charge of a cell decreases, less energy is manufactured by the cell and a general feeling of low energy or tiredness can be felt. It is during these times of low energy that the body can become susceptible to illness and injury.

To restore the power of a battery, a re-charger is used until the battery’s energy levels have increased to near maximal levels.

With respect to the human body, a MEDEC Bioresonance application can be thought of as a battery
re-charger. That is, by passing an electromagnetic wave of very low frequency through the body, individual cells are re-charged in the same manner as a battery is recharged.

Applying MEDEC Bioresonance on a regular basis (1 – 3 times per day) ensures that the body’s cells are capable of supplying suffi cient energy to maintain a high level of health and well-being.

Bioresonance is completely safe because low frequency electromagnetic waves are used. The Bioresonance
Systems are designed to produce electromagnetic fields at natural frequencies similar to those of a young and
healthy body.

At the age of 20, our energy potential is at its highest.

The energy of our body reduces considerably between the age of 35 and 45. By the age of 60, the human energy can be as low as 60% and at the age of 75, as low as 50%. The lower the energy of the body, the greater the risk of disease. Further, the body lacks energy to fight infections or recover from injuries.

There are a number of terms used in discussion of whole body vibration that need to be clearly defined.

3-D (3 Dimensional)
This means the plate moves in 3 directions during the vibration. Up and down, side to side, and front to back.

Amplitude
How high the platform moves during it is vibrating.

Commercial Unit
A commercial unit is designed as a projected income for a high end-use studio or gym. Should be serviceable for a period of 10 years+. Should have no feasible weight restrictions.

Contraindications
A list of reasons why you cannot use a particular unit. Note: One list may not apply to all machines. Some are safer.

Domestic Unit
Home unit designed for personal use. Depending on quality may or may not be used for weight loss.

Dynamic
This is moving (eg. jumping, moving push-up etc… ) while the machine is running.

Frequency (Fq)
How fast the platform moves while it is vibrating. Measured in Hertz (Hz).

G-Force
This is dictated by the speed of the platform during its upward movement in the vibration. For example; when someone is put in a rocket and fired towards space - gravity is still trying to pull you back. But because you are moving in the opposite direction to gravity you become temporarily “heavy”. In Vibration Training terms this would be one indication of how hard your muscles need to work to stay in a given position.

ISO 2631
This is an industry term used to relate safe exposure to vibrations in humans. These ongoing studies mainly revolve around occupational and workplace exposure (e.g. truck drivers, road works, construction workers etc.). However the research will and should be taken into account for voluntary exposure such as Vibration Training.

kN (Kilonewton)
This is a measurement of force in the vibration. Dictated to by the mass X speed of the platform.

Lineal
A solid platform that moves straight up and down, all across the surface at the same time.

Pivotal
A platform that tilts from side to side - so one foot goes up while the other goes down.

Professional (Pro) Unit
Unit designed for professional practices like Physiotherapists or small gyms. May also be used in studios but will have a limited lifespan and because of cost may have weight restrictions.

Static
This is holding a pose in a position without moving while the machine is running.

Vibration Therapy (Purpose Built Machine)
Using Kinetic Vibration to cause movement and circulation in tissue, with the aim to assist in stretching, breaking down of scar tissue , or a healing process.

Vibration Training (Purpose Built Machine)
Using Kinetic Vibration as a form of maintaining a base fitness level, weight loss or performance enhancement.

For nearly 100 years, medicine has seen the human body as a biochemical factory, requiring only the correct input of oxygen, nutrients and water to function effectively. Based on this theory, medicine has used chemical substances (pharmaceuticals), to treat disease. It can be debated that this approach to health is superficial and reactive because it is treating symptoms rather than the cause, and addressing health issues after they have manifested themselves as disease rather than before they have reached pathological proportions.

Many certainly know that conventional medicine has difficulty in treating many chronic illnesses and allergies. Bio-resonance therapy addresses the most fundamental causes of ill health which is deficiency in cellular energy.

Increasing cellular energy is known to improve cellular performance and healing by a gain in blood circulation, oxygen saturation, and metabolism. Furthermore, cellular energy is also important to assist recovery from chronic illnesses, for post operative wound care, or boosting sports performance, and for maintaining good health.

Is Vibration Training just a quick fix to weight management, or is there more to it? Do people even really want to know? Or is it like TV - switching it on and watching the pretty pictures is enough - who cares how the thing works, right?

If you are one of those people who just want the results with none of the fussy explanations, then move along. Nothing to see here.

If you are really interested - you may like the following.
This is new material we have written to explain what my deeper goals are. Some of it may present a different way of viewing the bio-mechanical human structure than those traditionally taught. Hopefully it will allow you to “SEE” what is really happening.

Bio-Mechanical Physics 101…
“Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred”
Physiology to me is a way of labeling and simplifying physics to:

  • allow those in the industry to identify patterns of energy (movement and function) and follow its effect.
  • use large blocks of named matter to isolate and treat problems that occur in the tissue.
Scientists see the body as 10 trillion separate cells, waiting to receive and transfer energy so it can perform its required task. Each cells function is dictated by its own DNA/Chromosome instruction manual. Yes, every single cell, no matter what type, can be affected.

When I design a Vibration Training device, I account for where the energy goes, what its effects on the cells are, how strong the effect will be, and at what point it is delivered in the safest means.

Your Genetic Potential

Each cell in the human body has a genetic potential. This is stored by the matched DNA/Chromosome system we inherit from our parents. This Genetic Potential is never reached, as signals from the inner cell are not strong and may not get through, and even if a signal does get through, the needed nutrients, hormones etc, and other outside requirements for the cell to complete its task may not be met.
In fact almost everything can stop the cell from reaching its full potential. Not enough food, too much food; not enough sun, too much sun; not enough exercise, too much exercise - you get the picture…
Sometimes the Chromosome or DNA is even damaged and the signal may not be sent complete.
The odds are stacked against us for a reason - too easy and the species would have little weaknesses, which goes against the “Only the strongest survive” rule.
You can quite often see this with immigrants from 3rd world nations who have children in their new homeland. The children are somewhat taller than their parents. What’s happened? Have they jumped in height in only one generation? Of course not, this would be impossible from an evolutionary standpoint.
What has happened is that the parents had the same genetic potential all along, but it just was never reached because of different 3rd world issues (mainly nutrient deficiency). Their children have gotten closer to the genetic potential.
But adequate nutrition is not the only way to ensure that a cell can receive a signal. An outside force exerting itself on the cellular wall will also fire off its own signal burst (as in a myostatic reflex), that spurs the cell into action to do the only thing its designed to do, whatever that may be.

Vibration Training Platform
The reason I choose to use Kinetic Vibration to produce a signal in cells is because it is almost impossible to stop. In fact the only way to avoid it is to avoid contact with the unit. This system gives us just another way to try and over-ride a lifestyle that may block the realization of our Genetic Potential.
But what’s the real point to all these signals. Why not just exercise voluntarily - wouldn’t that just fix everything?
Unfortunately our lifestyle does not allow us to receive the required amount of constant stimulation all other animals get from their normal day to day existence. Think about this.
We are the only animal thats needs to ‘run for fun’ to stay fit. We are the only animal with an obesity problem.
We have essentially managed to evolve our surroundings to a point where lack of stimulation and over-nutrition is now killing us.
Properly built Vibration units should have all these stimulation equations designed into them. They must be balanced to send a balanced signal, as the cells are not fooled easily and require the correct amount of Kinetic Pressure to unlock the key to the response.

We try to replicate most of the signals you would normally receive over 2 days, and put it all into 15 minutes.
OK, in real terms what does this mean?

As an example, over the course of 190 days the average person gets a chance to replace their entire skeletal structure.
Using the ‘Direct Signal’ method of Vibration Training your body has a better chance of reaching its true Genetic Mass Potential. I have used bone as my example as it is the hardest, most complicated and slowest tissue to form. Softer tissue will be faster.
You may see results on a good unit in less than 3 weeks on softer tissue like red muscle cells. But our advice would be to look at your body in blocks of 190 days. This gives your body a chance for a true ‘Body Composition’ change.

We hope this gives food for thought
